President Barack Obama gives a weekly address… every week, and for the one uploaded to YouTube today, he was joined by Macklemore to address the issue of opioid addiction.

“I’m here with President Obama because I take this personally,” Macklemore said, who became “the first non-administration official to appear on the president’s weekly address,” according to Billboard. “I have abused prescription drugs and battled addiction. If I hadn’t gotten the help I needed when I needed it, I might not be here today. And I want to help others facing the same challenges I did.”

“Addiction doesn’t always start in some dark alley—it often starts in a medicine cabinet,” Obama said, noting that deaths due to overdose have doubled in the past decade, and the abused drugs are often legally prescribed by doctors.

Macklemore was at the White House on Thursday as part of the production of an hour-long documentary on the topic he is currently working on for MTV, which is scheduled to air at some point this year.
