In a new interview with The Guardian, Kelis talked about her upcoming appearances at a number of British festivals this summer. With her scheduled to play seven different festivals, she mentioned how, especially with British festivals, performers are expected to “fight the elements” to a certain extent. “The first time I played Glastonbury, in 2000, it rained a lot,” she explained. “Moby was on stage before me, and there was a sewage situation. There was literally poo everywhere.”

Having released her debut cookbook last year, Kelis also took the time to discuss some recipes, including a dish entitled pineapple beef. Perhaps the most surprising part of the interview, however, came when she was asked what she would put into a milkshake. “I don’t think I’ve ever made a milkshake,” she admitted. “I made a smoothie the other day that was really good–protein powder, spinach, orange, and crushed ice with a little bit of honey and coconut water.”

While it’s not a criminal offense for Kelis to have never made a milkshake in her life, it is a little disappointing, especially after she claimed her milkshake brought all the boys to the yard. Of course, the song isn’t actually about milkshakes, but that’s besides the point.
