Kanye West’s appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show will air this afternoon (Thursday, May 19), and you can watch an extended clip of his time with Ellen above. Kanye touches on Twitter, the importance of art, his desire to change the world, and not being taken seriously. Things start off light, but Kanye quickly shifts the focus of the conversation to much bigger things.
“I know it’s daytime TV,” Kanye says, “but I feel like I can make a difference while I’m here. I feel that I can make things better through my skill sets.” He talks about some of the great creators the world has seen—Michael Jackson, Steve Jobs, Picasso—before emphasizing how seriously he takes his work, and how he believes it can make the world we live in a better place.
The clip ends with this inspirational gem: “Isn’t that so funny that people point fingers at the people who influenced us the most? They talk the most shit about the people who cared the most. I’m sorry, daytime television. I’m sorry for the realness.”
