Today is GoldLink’s 23rd birthday, and in celebration of it, the DMV rapper has shared a Kaytranada-produced song that he recorded over two years ago. Tweeting out the loosie earlier today, GoldLink also shared some thoughts on turning another year older: “I was 18, angry, and woke up everyday ready to die for wuteva, and now here I am at 23 years old. Shits wild.”
“Celebration Freestyle” is a frenetic and menacing offering, featuring GoldLink’s rapid-fire verses that are backed by a percussion heavy beat with no shortage of cinematic moments courtesy of Kaytranada. The two are fairly frequent collaborators, so it’s no surprise that “Celebration Freestyle” sounds as good as it does. Previously, GoldLink and Kaytranada joined forces on “Sober Thoughts,” “On & On,” and most recently, “Together,” which also features AlunaGeorge and appears on Kaytranada’s 99.9%.
In January, we caught up with GoldLink and asked him about his upcoming plans: “I’m just trying to figure out everything I can do outside of music, so we can push the music further I guess; try to set up correct tours to keep people happy.”
