In 1989, Warner Bros. had asked Big Daddy Kane to flip Prince’s “Batdance,” which appeared on the 1989 Batman soundtrack. Apparently having immediately come up with his verses right on the spot at the studio, Big Daddy Kane was added to the official remix, featuring additional vocals from Prince as well as a mix of the theme from the ’60s Batman series.

Until now, that remix was buried by Warner Bros., and producer John Luongo recently revealed why in an interview with L.A. Times. According to Luongo, Warner Bros. didn’t like it, saying that it was “too different.” Gowhere Hip Hop, though, managed to dig the remix up, and the eight-minute-long remix proves that different isn’t a bad thing in this case.

Tonight, Saturday Night Live will be airing a Prince tribute episode titled SNL Good Night Sweet Prince at 11:30 pm EST.

Listen to Prince and Big Daddy Kane’s remix of “Batdance” and watch the video for the original below.
