iLoveMakonnen recently announced that he had parted ways with Drake’s OVO Sound imprint, saying, “I cannot thank OVO, 40, Oliver, Future & Mr. Morgan, enough for all that they have done for my career.” It appeared that he left on good terms, with his statement adding, “No words can express how much I appreciate Drake for being a part of the success of ‘Tuesday’. I’m sure the haters will have something negative to say, but all in all my choice to be solely on Warner Bros Records was the right thing for me and for my best interest.”
He ended his statement by saying that there’s “no beef to report,” and that everything was good between him and his former label boss. Judging from a Periscope video posted to YouTube, it would appear that Makonnen has already started joking about the big move. “Why’d you leave OVO?” someone asked him, with him responding, “Because I was underweight now, When I was overweight, they was fucking with me. That’s what OVO stands for, overweight only.”
“What’s that nigga album? What’s that dumb-ass album with the sky shit?” he asks, before mentioning how he plans to drop acid later in the day. Going off what he’s saying on Twitter, everything he says in the clip regarding OVO is in jest.
