At the four-year mark after Whitney Houston’s tragic passing, BBC Two has announced that it will be releasing a documentary on the legendary singer from filmmaker Nick Broomfield. Broomfield is known for his controversial documentarian style and content—he filmed Kurt and Courtney four years after Kurt Cobain’s suicide, and investigates every claim that surrounded Cobain’s death, from murder theories to Courtney Love’s involvement in it.

Whitney Houston sold over 150 million albums, had seven consecutive US number ones, and was one of the most successful female singers of all time.
Now, four years after her death, acclaimed filmmaker Nick Broomfield (Sara Palin: You Betcha!; Aileen: Life And Death Of A Serial Killer; Kurt & Courtney) goes in search of the forces that made and then destroyed the singer who has been described as having one of the greatest voices of the last 50 years.
Early last year, Lifetime released the Angela Bassett-directed biopic, Whitney, starring YaYa DaCosta as Whitney Houston. The film received mixed reviews, but drew the most criticism from Houston’s family. “Truth is violated by silence just as much as by a lie,” the official statement from the Whitney Houston Estate read. According to the statement, Lifetime did not receive approval from the family. You can read it in its entirety here.
