The upcoming biopic about Nina Simone’s life, simply titled Nina, has been in the works for quite a few years now. Since the beginning of production, the film has also been in a bit of hot water for casting Zoe Saldana to play Nina—considering the actress has to don quite a lot of makeup to match Nina’s complexion—rather than choosing an actress more fitting in the first place. Though despite a bumpy road to production, it appears that Nina is finally one step closer to being seen by the public.
Yesterday, the first poster for the biopic was revealed along with news that the film is expected to hit theaters on April 22. This announcement is now followed by the release of the official trailer for the film. Saldana can be seen alongside David Oyelowo, who played Martin Luther King Jr. in 2014’s Selma.
