Canadian minimalist synth duo Majical Cloudz have hit the end of the road. Since forming in 2010, Montreal-based Matt Otto and Devon Welsh have had a successful run, most recently releasing a well-received third studio album Are You Alone? in October 2015. According to a statement that Welsh published to their tumblr, it will be their last.
“I have some news!” the upbeat note begins. “Over the last few months Matt and I decided that Are You Alone? would be the last Majical Cloudz record, and that after doing some touring we would be moving on to other projects and adventures.”
“As of March 2016 we have released 2 LPs, 2 EPs and toured all over the place,” he continues. “Doing all these things made real what had been a dream for both us, and so the band was an opportunity for us to grow into the kinds of people and the kinds of artists we wanted to become. We both feel it to be the completion of something very positive.”
While the group will be coming to an end, fans can still look for new music from both Welsh and Otto. Welsh plans on releasing music under his own name and Otto will be working on a new project called The Dahlia.
