Best New Mixes Streaming Right Now

Whether you're in straight SXSW recovery mode or already anticipating your next turn up, let this collection of brilliant mixes be your companion.

First off, salute to the squad at Soulection for hitting their 5th anniversary, which was marked by a stellar mix from the boss man Joe Kay. And staying in a similar vein, you may also find delight in the special tribute mixes that feature this time around, each respectively made with Erykah Badu and The People Under The Stairs in mind.

But maybe something to get the heart-rate going faster is what you're after, in which case Addison Groove and Redlight have got you covered. In any event, here are the new mixes that you don't want to miss.

1.

2. Joe Kay: Soulection Radio Show #249 (5 Year Anniversary Show)

The team behind Soulection have done well not only to establish a solid label over the space of five years, but also to forge their own signature sound as an almost instantly recognisable signature.

Resident in charge of making sure you're up to date with what's on rotation during recent days at Soulection HQ is Joe Kay. For this special edition, the mix features tracks from trusted names such as Sango, Young Thug, Common, Kanye, and Pomo.

Raise a glass and press play!

3. Soul Supreme & Dase Boogie: The People Under the Stairs Tribute Mix I & II

Anyone unaware of hip-hop group The People Under The Stairs and are simultaneously a fan of superchill West Coast hip-hop should do themselves a service and listen to these two mixes by Soul Supreme and Dase Boogie. Anyone already familiar with P.U.T.S probably stopped reading this a sentence ago and have already started listening.

Smoking crew: lighters and sofas at the ready.

4. Tortoise: FACT Mix #541

To celebrate the release of Tortoise’s brand new album The Catastrophist on Thrill Jockey, the band's guitarist Jeff Parker got to work on a mix with an interesting tracklist for the folks at FACT.

Boasting Giorgio Moroder, Sun Ra, Minnie Ripperton, J Dilla, Brian Eno and a bunch of strange sounds strewn about, this mix might melt your brain a little bit.

5. Redlight: AXIS Mix #166

Starting off relatively gentle and proceeding to storm through some stonking club tracks, this mix by British DJ/producer Redlight is the most likely on this list to make you break a sweat.

Let your hair down and don't let the absence of a tracklist bother you, as it has done others in the comments section. Be careful with this one first thing in the morning.

6. tealideal: Analoggirlinadigitalworld Mix

When Erykah Badu brought her touch to Drake's 'Hotline Bling', it wasn't the singer's first interaction with her cellular device, as this mix from tealideal demonstrates.

Delving into Badu's back-catalog via this mix, you will remember the other moments in her music where she included the telephone as the talking point.

7. Morgan Hislop: Hyponik Mix #257

London-based producer and multimedia artist Morgan Hislop came up with a cracking mix of club tunes, featuring a cheeky appearance from Bryan Adams, for the most recent in Hyponik's mix series.

“The mix has been put together during a time when I’m recording a load of tracks for a new EP. A lot of these tracks on the playlist I had been playing out at clubs and parties, but I wanted to show’n’tell what my ears have been tuned to at the beginning of this year so far. So this is a bit of a mood board, or scrap book. It’s an eclectic one, and includes tracks that I’ve really loved from the likes of Ducky, Sega Bodega, Ossie, MikeQ, DJ Paypal, Nadus; and also includes some curveballs in there. With a mix I always want to add a sense of narrative that settles you in and sucks you into a bubble for the duration, and the mysterious dialogue during the intro (I couldn’t tell you where it’s from!) might be my personal favourite yet.”

8. Luaka Bop: Shine Baby, Shine! Mix for David Byrne Radio

Fans of the label famous for shining a light on obscure records from around the world will be pleased with this latest mix by New York-based label Luaka Bop, as featured on David Byrne Radio. Rare tracks and infectious rhythms feature throughout via records "found during a recent trip to Trinidad & Tobago".

9. Addison Groove: Episode 7

Addison Groove never disappoints given a set of decks plus a pair of headphones, and Episode 7 of his own personal mix series shows no sign of Mr Groove slipping. Rather, he's keeping it speedy.

"Footwork and jungle selection of all the new shit I've been playing recently – 160bpm and up. Featuring Deft, DJ Earl, Lux Familiar, DJ Madd, Calibre, Sam Binga, Chimpo and some tracks taken from myself and DJ Die's forthcoming EP on Gutterfunk."

10. Neek: Electronic Explorations Mix #416

This mix by Bristolian producer Neek manages to both bang and bring a tear to the eye.

"I put together this mix to showcase sounds that inspire and inform all the genres I work in. Rough, crackly, sample based muzik. Look out for 2 new O$VMV$M EP's this year and more music forthcoming on Bandulu Records".

Spooky Black, Rabit, and Dean Blunt also feature.

11. Project Pablo: Project Pablo's Sky Lounge Medley

As the possibility of affordable space travel becomes ever more real, this mix from the Montreal-based musician and DJ known as Project Pablo would probably do well played over the tannoy in the departure gate as people wait to get blasted into space.

Ambient soundscapes are soon followed by a selection of electronic slow jams, funk, disco, soul and more in the Sky Lounge. Please have your boarding pass and emergency oxygen mask at the ready.
