Best Free Downloads of the Week

Every Sunday we collect the best free music we can find and put it all in one place. If you fell behind or just feel like building up your iTunes, we've got you covered. Here are the week's best free downloads, in no particular order.

1.

2. Jodie Abacus - "Space Buffalo"

What a pairing: Jodie Abacus and Royce Wood Jr. linked for the aptly named "Space Buffalo." It's an impossibly smooth cut that finds Abacus channeling his inner Stevie Wonder while RWJ lays down some steady, self-assured production. This is one of those songs that just flows from start to finish, an easy addition to any sunny day playlist.

3. Jace ft. Jeremih - "Lick Read"

Atlanta's Jace, part of the Two-9 crew, dropped his own project Jace Tape this week. With executive production by Childish Major and features from Jeremih and Robb Banks, the mixtape is well worth checking out, from smoother cuts like "Lick Read" to harder tracks like the FKi-produced "J.A.N."

4. VAGUE001 - "Fatigue"

VAGUE001 continues to impress with each new release—this week we premiered "Fatigue," his first release through Fête Records. It's a pulsing, moody cut that showcases the Chicago producer's ear for essential details. The clipped vocals, glitchy drums, and pitched samples all work together to create something truly unique.

5. MF DOOM x Sade - "Air"

This week MF DOOM and Sade are brought together once again thanks to Seanh's mash-up mixtape, the SADEVILLAIN EP. The EP layers DOOM's grittier verses over the relaxing rhythms of some of Sade's classics, with intriguing results.

6. Ye Ali ft. Jazz Cartier - "Ring"

Ye Ali and Jazz Cartier linked up with producers Sap and Lantz for a collab version of Ali's "Ring" this week. The trappings of fame are discussed at length, complete with Kardashian and Beyoncé references.

These two are focused on making good music, and the fact that they flipped a smooth, romantic jam into a low-key thoughtful reflection on fame and success is just further proof.

7. Khary - "Find Me"

Khary's "Find Me" sounds like it took a lot of soul searching to write. It paid off—those booming horns pair beautifully with Khary's urgent delivery, and it serves as another reminder that the Rhode Island rapper's intern aquarium is a release to look out for.

“The song is about trusting yourself," Khary said. "Having the confidence to trot down your own path without caring what other people are doing or even knowing what’s on the other side. I used to wait for others to validate me and that mentality held me hostage at square one. I had to validate myself.”

8. Statik Selektah & Green Lantern - "I Hate (the New) Kanye"

As the internet continues to get flooded with remixes of Kanye West's a cappella track "I Love Kanye," only the best seem to rise to the top. Statik Selektah and Green Lantern offer up a double dose with their separate, soulful takes on the track.

9. Jalen Wilkes ft. Joe Trufant - "For You"

Big, moody bass and subtle Auto-Tune take Jalen Wilkes' "For You" to another level. Like many artists these days, he's singing in the style of Bryson Tiller, but Wilkes is clearly a cut above the rest. He's released a couple of songs since this December release, and they're both worth checking out on his SoundCloud.

10. DJC - "Sands Tool"

If there's a lack of electronic beats in your life, DJC (aka Jam City) is here for you. "Sands Tool" fuses hard-as-nails percussion with a whining synth to set the tone early—this beat is begging for someone like Danny Brown to add a couple of verses.

11. Jay Kurzweil ft. Mani Coolin', Big Gipp, League, and D.Cope - "JAM"

Posse cuts are always a lot of fun, and everyone brought their best to "JAM." Jay Kurzweil provided the driving, elastic beat, and each rapper brought something new to the mix. The result is another solid addition to your party playlist.
