Madison, Wisconsin’s Ra’Shaun possesses perhaps modern rap’s most important skill set for popular success: A capacity for melody that invites the listener to sing along. New single “What’s Up” builds on ability he showcased on “Deja Vu,” pairing memorable melodic rapping with the sort of production that induces involuntary head nods. It’s an all around improvement from past releases. Though not the most original in terms of content, “What’s Up” succeeds on its bouncy, infectious style—a testament to the developing ability of its creator.
