Singer/producer Raylond Hamm’s “Be” sounds unfinished, but its simplicity and rawness seem a statement in themselves. “Be” dresses Hamm’s voice in light auto-tune and casts it next to sparse production, unsettling in its minimalism and sense of open space. It builds to a cluttered climax, the jagged culmination of Hamm’s reflections on lost love. It would be easy to write it off as unpleasant, even amateurish, but there’s an admirable vulnerability to Hamm’s performance and focus, choosing scant elements and pushing his quavering voice to limits of his range.
