Rising Brooklyn duo Gloss Gang was featured on “Outta Pocket,” the last song on Allan Kingdom’s Northern Lights project, and today the two acts link up again. “Aroma” features deep bass, a catchy hook, and a lively bounce thanks to the Adrian Lau production, but there’s deeper meaning to be found if you pay attention.

“The song ‘Aroma’ came along in the middle of recording ‘Outta Pocket,'” Gloss Gang explain via email. “We were vibing out to the track and since Stacksz went out for a smoke break to get his mind right to record, Allan and Swook started vibing out to a new beat. This ended up being ‘Aroma.’ Swook and Allan pretty much just shared stories of how it is growing up in Brooklyn and Minnesota, respectively, while trying to pursue a career in music.

“The line ‘I know you can smell the aroma / I never got my diploma / We used to post on them corners / I know that they trynna own us’ basically says that since they got their start, they realized how people started to gravitate towards their movement. Coming from the hood, you’re taught to always watch people and your back. Labels will basically tell you they want to offer you a 360 deal to steal your ownership. But for us, we realized that we have that aura, that gloss, and this is something they can never take away from us.”

Check out “Aroma” below, and if you get a chance to check these guys out live, do it. They’ve got a couple of shows coming up in NYC.
