20 Artists About To Blow, According To Social Media Stats

1.

When an artist starts to gain steam, it shows in their numbers. Followers grow, play counts rise, and views accumulate.

As soon as that happens, indify starts to take notice.

indify's Connor Lawrence describes the service as "a music data platform that uses listener data, social metrics, and online trends to identify emerging musicians far before they reach stardom."

Using their database of artists, we found 20 artists whose audience is growing faster than most. Here are 20 artists about to blow up, based on their social media stats.

2. EMI

Hometown: Seattle

Genre: Electronic R&B

EMI might be about to blow up in a big way. Besides boasting production from all-star beatmakers Rex Kudo and Sevn Thomas, the Seattle singer's music has an intoxicating attitude that make "Phantom" and "Hit Me" the type of songs that demand repeat spins.

3. LOYAL

Hometown: Brighton, UK

Genre: Soulful dance music

LOYAL are a talented trio from across the pond with no shortage of hushed harmonies and pensive production. Both "Blue & Green" and "House For You" prove the Good Years signees are capable of telling stories with their music.

5. Bishop

Hometown: Los Angeles

Genre: Alternative pop

Bishop first came to our attention with the absolutely massive "Wild Horses," and she followed it up with "River," an equally forceful and confident cut. It's always great to hear a singer give it their all on a track, and Bishop knows how to do just that.

7. ZelooperZ

Hometown: Detroit, MI

Genre: Rap

ZelooperZ's Bothic album is shaping up to be one of this young year's most exciting releases.

We've heard a handful of singles so far—one listen to "Elevator," "ISBD," and "Bout It" shows that this Bruiser Brigade affiliate is doing Detroit and Danny Brown proud with a some prolifically raw energy. That Bulletproof Dolphin production doesn't hurt either.

9. Charlotte Day-Wilson

Hometown: Toronto

Genre: Pop/R&B

Toronto's very own Charlotte Day-Wilson first surfaced as a guest vocalist on froyo ma's criminally underrated pants EP. Her self-produced debut single arrived several months later.

"After All" received a swell of online support off the strength of its composed grace, but it's the layered, tail-end transition—hidden from SoundCloud surfers bouncing from track to track—that suggests she's only just begun to show listeners her penchant for striking arrangement.

11. Tsar B

Hometown: Belgium

Genre: Moody pop

Tsar B's music is hard to pin down—it's both ethereal and direct, sensual and bittersweet. The Belgian singer has only released two tracks thus far, but "Myth" and "Escalate" make for quite an entrance. Together, the two songs ooze a mysterious cool and give Tsar B an unmistakable aesthetic.

13. Krrum

Hometown: Leeds, UK

Genre: Electronic

Expect the unexpected when listening to Krrum. The Leeds local has a bevy of instrumental influences on hand, so you're as likely to hear a chorus of brass horns as buzzy 808s.

It's all balanced by the vocals—Krrum is in possession of a slightly hoarse and exceptionally smooth voice, and he's not afraid to let it fly.

15. Desiigner

Hometown: Brooklyn, NY

Genre: Rap

Desiigner's "Panda" has been a viral sensation for a few weeks now, but his followers are still rising. With a Kanye West cosign already under his belt, it'll be interesting to see where the Brooklyn rapper goes from here.

17. Jorja Smith

Hometown: Walsall, UK

Genre: Alternative R&B

Jorja Smith made quite the first impression with "Blue Lights." It's the kind of song that is instantly appealing—heartfelt, confident, and relatable. There's a raw honesty in Smith's music, something that can come about only through youth and a musical palate that's continuing to evolve.

19. Sophie Beem

Hometown: New York, NY

Genre: Rhythmic Pop

It all started with "Skyline," the first release that set the tone for the New York singer. Then Sophie Beem got a big boost when Fetty Wap featured on "I Got It" this month.

But Beem can hold a song solo, too—she proved as much with a remix cover of Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself."

21. Episode

Hometown: New York, NY

Genre: Rock

If they keep this up, Episode might end up as the East Coast's answer to The Neighbourhood. Their songs—"Swim," especially—evoke a similarly assertive melancholy, punctuated by morose lyrics ("loving you is just like poison") and emotive guitar solos.

Every part of their music fits into place. It's tightly written—you can hear the hours of practice and demos. The industry knows it, too—Episode's "Lost in Cali" demo was recorded with "White Iverson" producer Rex Kudo.

23. Kaiydo

Hometown: Orlando, FL

Genre: Rap

One of our favorite new artists is Kaiydo, the Florida rapper behind an incredible flip of Sampha's "Without."

The resulting "Arcade" is a thing of slurry, laid-back beauty, but feel free to let the stream continue—his first release, "Red Freestyle," shows another side entirely, proving he's equally capable of bringing some reckless fun to a beat.

25. Opia

Hometown: New Haven, CT

Genre: Electronic R&B

One song can go a long ways these days. Opia's "Falling" hasn't quite reached viral levels of ubiquity, but it's the kind of song that could with the right audience. These two are turning heads, and we can't wait to hear what's next.

27. Annabel Jones

Hometown: London, UK

Genre: Synth-pop

Fans of CHVRCHES are going to love Annabel Jones. 2015's "Magnetic" put her on radar, and last month Jones released "IOU." This song is sassy and catchy as fuck, a flawlessly designed earworm that will assuredly launch Jones to the next level.

29. Goldwash

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Genre: Existential funk

Goldwash's self-described brand of "existential funk" comes straight from Baltimore, and his bright, buzzy hooks fit the dance floor and afterparty in equal measure. "Malady" is our favorite of his two offerings thus far—the cheerful, chirping synths evoke Jai Paul and sunny, humid afternoons.

31. Cameron AG

Hometown: Oxford, UK

Genre: Dream pop

Cameron AG has started buzzing thanks to some placements on BBC Radio and Apple Music. It also doesn't hurt that he's making the kind of tender-hearted tracks that hit at your very core, barely-there arrangements that keep things simple, quavering, and honest to deliver their heartfelt message.

33. Dahlia Sleeps

Hometown: London, UK

Genre: Synth-pop

Dahlia Sleeps create songs about the kind of love that threatens to leave. The London band turns universal tropes intro intimate ordeals, drawing you into their glittering, synthy world note by note. Everything is presented with an elegant thoughtfulness, from the artwork to their careful crescendoes.

35. Two Another

Hometown: London,UK

Genre: Dance funk

With "Higher" and "Keeping Me Under," Two Another are two for two. The Londoners keep things sultry and funky, dissecting formulas first tested by Jungle and Jamie Woon with uptempo beats and breathy, melancholy vocals.

37. Private Island

Hometown: Southern California

Genre: Alternative rock

Private Island is making alt-rock of a very high quality, sending out good vibes from Southern California with impressive consistency. "Drugs" is probably the closest they come to melancholy, but it's still hard to stop from nodding along with a smile on your face. Clean guitar licks and pitch-perfect vocals may remind you of Phoenix, but there's an edge to Private Island that puts them in a class by themselves.

39. Foreign Air

Hometown: North Carolina

Genre: Pop/rock

Falsetto and guitar rock top Foreign Air's list of musical priorities. "In The Shadows" was released two weeks ago, and these two North Carolinians (Jesse Classen and Jacob Michael) landed on a Spotify playlist shortly thereafter.

Foreign Air's upcoming EP is called Youth Is Sad.
