The New Wave is a feature we’ll be presenting every Tuesday. It will highlight one song we’re currently obsessed with, by a new or rising artist.

What we say:

“Bad Habits” kicks you right in teeth. Nothing THEY. do is outside the bounds of melodic, accessible songwriting, but they’re on the experimental fringes. “Bad Habits” is the centerpiece of the L.A. duo’s Nu Religion EP, a unique blend of slurry vocals and jagged percussion. The song incorporates these two opposing styles, blending them with masterful ease.

What they say:

“I used to sit back and wish someone would make something that was really hard and melodic, basically something that sounded like what we did. And it made me realize I need to stop sitting back and wishing someone else would make it because maybe I’m the one that’s supposed to do it. You can’t look to other people forever, eventually someone else has to step up. That could be us, or it could even be someone we inspire.”
