10 Future Features From Before He Ruled Rap

By Brokencool

2015 was truly the year of Future. The critically acclaimed ATL rapper owned rap in 2015 with albums (Dirty Sprite 2), mixtapes (Beast Mode, 56 Nights, and W.A.T.T.B.A.), and memes ("Sensational"). So far in 2016, he hasn't slowed down one bit, already releasing the Purple Reign mixtape, and appearing on songs with A$AP Ferg and Mike WiLL Made It.

But while Future's first glimpse at stardom came with 2011's "Tony Montana," it wasn't until last year that he leapt from being part of a massive Atlanta crowd to one of the rap game's most recognizable artists. Future Hendrix hasn't always been at the top. There was a time when he did guest appearances that went relatively unnoticed, and for good reason.

Here are ten songs featuring Future that came out before he ruled rap.

1.

2. Yayo ft. Future - "All I See Is Hundreds"

Year: 2011

One forgotten early career appearance from Future is on rapper Yayo's 2011 track "All I See Is Hundreds." In a time when Future was clearly offering guest spots at a "friendly" rate, this is one of the better songs to come out of that period.

Fueled by a fiery hook of, "I got dope boy money n*gga, all I see is hunnids, all I see is hunnids," Future's Auto-Tune-free verse works well with Yayo's tales of overseas flights to move bread. Had Yayo stashed this one until Future mania took over, the juice might have been worth the squeeze.

3. Flo-Rida ft. Future - "Tell Me When You Ready"

Year: 2013

In what is the best example of a Future feature hitting a little too early, Flo-Rida's "Tell Me When You Ready" (arguably the best thing Flo-Rida has ever done) was jam-packed with a club-ready Future hook and bouncy, playful verses from Flo. It should have shot this one to the top. Unfortunately, it was still too soon to splash this "dirty Sprite" on the masses.

4. Mr. Sipp ft. Future - "Going Ham"

Year: 2011

Mississippi-bred rapper Mr. Sipp got on that Future train early, securing the Atlanta rapper for his 2011 track "Going Ham." The song is literally drowning in Auto-Tune, with both Sipp and Future crooning/rapping forgettable verses.

Even Future himself had yet to really refine his image in the video, blending in with Mr. Sipp. Side note: look out for a Yo Gotti appearance.

5. DJ Drama ft. Future, T.I. & Big Boi - "Ain't No Way Around It (Remix)"

Year: 2011

Released in 2011, DJ Drama's "Ain't No Way Around It" is notable for a couple of reasons.

1) It features a guest appearance from Future at the height of his initial glimpse at rap stardom (the release of "Tony Montana" featuring Drake).

2) The track is produced by Mike WiLL Made It pre-Miley Cyrus fame. Compared to some of the other videos Future was appearing in during 2011, the rapper's image/style is more neatly crafted here, and we begin to see some glimpses of present-day Future.

6. Lava Kno ft. Future - "I'm On"

Year: 2013

One would hope Future got broken off a large sum for his guest spot on Lava Kno's mixtape throwaway "I'm On." This one will go down as one of Future's worst guest spots of all-time.

The only saving grace is that it's unlikely anyone outside of Atlanta has even heard this.

7. DJ Infamous ft. Future - "Itchin"

Year: 2011

DJ Infamous, Mike WiLL Made-It, and Future came together for "Itchin'," an Auto-Tune free track from 2011. "Itchin'" is Future in his rawest rap form, one that doesn't lend itself as pleasantly to the ear more recent Future cuts that are soaked in technically enhanced vocals (see: "Blow A Bag" and "March Madness").

8. Jazz Lazer ft. Future - "You Know"

Year: 2012

Jazz Lazer's "You Know" is one of the better pre-Future hysteria cuts. Future's verse is aided by vocal enhancements and bounces alongside the track as Lazer spits some decent verses.

The hook has that repetitive angle that instantly stays in the listener's head. Another example of a song that if it dropped in 2015, Lazer could have probably rode the Future wave to some recognition.

9. Slice 9 ft. Future & Levi Leer - "Another One"

Year: 2012

Signed to Epic Records via Future's Freebandz imprint, Slice 9 had a hit with "Another One," featuring label boss Future, in 2012. The song, fueled by an expectedly dope Future hook, acted as the lead single to a Slice 9 major label debut—that has yet to materialize.

A smooth guest appearance by ATL artist Levi Leer ups the ante even more on this track. Slice 9 got his opportunity...unfortunately, it was about three years too early to fully capitalize.

10. London Taylor ft. Future - "Pop Big Bottles"

Year: 2012

"Pop Big Bottles" is a 2012 track from R&B artist London Taylor. You will definitely want to pop and drink a few bottles before listening to this one, as it's probably the only way you will be able to get through listening to this mediocre cut. In a rare turn of events, even Future doesn't even work on the track, mainly due to atrocious production and a flat hook.

11. Pusha T ft. Future - "Pain"

Year: 2012

"Pain" is off Pusha T's debut solo album, My Name is My Name. The song features an understated Future hook while Pusha tells stories of being the "Hines Ward of the crime lords."

The song was the lead single from the album, but failed to chart. One would think that if "Pain" was released in 2015, it might have been a different story.
