Best New Mixes Streaming Right Now

1.

There are lots of new mixes posted up online every day, so good reason is required to include on old mixes or broadcasts along with our shiny new mix selections. This time, we've included two from the archives. To allay any fear, we also have fresh selects from Fade To Mind's Kingdom, Novelist's 4-hour birthday brodown for Radar Radio, and the turntablist known as Ruckazoid spinning and scratching.

But as mentioned, we've gone to the figurative vault and have come across an old Roll Deep set recorded live at Ministry of Sound back in 2003 (which was ripped from MiniDisc by the guys at Get Darker), and in memoriam, David Bowie's DJ set for BBC Radio 1 which was first broadcast back in 1979.

We invite you to put on your dancing shoes, and move to the blues, hip-hop, house, grime, and much more.

2. David Bowie: Star Special for BBC Radio 1 (1979)

There's been more than one mix to have surfaced over the last couple of weeks that have paid tribute to the late David Bowie, and rightly so. But instead of sharing a megamix of his entire repertoire, we've decided to share evidence of the Starman's own selection powers in his guest BBC Radio 1 broadcast from 1979, sharing a selection of his personal favourites, replete with narration and sentiments from a legend gone too soon.

Iggy Pop, King Crimson, Stevie Wonder, and the Stones all feature.

3. Novelist: 19th Birthday Set for Radar Radio

One day, I imagine Novelist being asked by his kid, or his grandkid, about the sort of thing he got up to on his 19th birthday. The South London-based MC/producer would then be able to play this session, recorded for Radar Radio through whatever new-fangled device is doing the rounds in 2042. Regardless of whether you're reading this the day it was published or if you're reading this some time in the future, you'll find four hours of London's grime elite in the following mix. If this is Novelist at 19, we look forward to more of the same from this sharp young lad over years to come.

4. Chief: ''Article Of Fusion'' Mix for NTS Radio & 'Tribute to Jneiro Jarel' Mix

This isn't the first time a mix from Chief has caught our ears; the last time being some time around August last year. This time however, it wasn't just the one mix. The Swiss producer and Feelin' Music figurehead cooked up not one but two seperate mixes we couldn't choose between for inclusion.

On the one hand, there's his tribute mix made with the music of Jneiro Jarel aka Dr Who Dat? in mind (think Massive Attack, Damon Albarn and DOOM), and on the other we have a half hour of power titled 'Article of Fusion' which he put together for the peeps at NTS Radio.

Why not listen to both and see which you prefer?

5. Kingdom b2b MA DJ: Fade to Mind Podcast for Rinse FM

Channeling the core musical values that Fade To Mind cherish so dear, label-boss Kingdom commanded a set that traverses hip-hop, house, and various other denominations of club-oriented bangers in a back-to-back with MA (Nguzu) that would do just as well being played in a dark, sweaty room in East London as it would in downtown Los Angeles. Not suitable for listening first thing in morning.

6. Roll Deep feat. Wiley, Dizzee Rascal, Tinchy Stryder, Flowdan: Live at La Cosa Nostra at Ministry of Sound (2003)

Amongst the collection of dust, dead Rizla packets, Schott jackets, old issues of Loaded and miscellanous electrical wires presumably at the back of Get Darker's staff cabinet, was a MiniDisc copy of Roll Deep's set recorded back in 2003, which they've kindly uploaded online. Taking place at a 'La Cosa Nostra' event at London's Ministry of Sound, the night starred Wiley and Dizzee Rascal, and also features a young(er) Tinchy Stryder, Flow Dan, plus the rest of the crew.

7. JR Jarris: New Mix, Who Dis

San Diego's JR Jarris isn't a household name yet, but this mix he's made is definitely a step in the right direction. 'New Mix, Who Dis' is pretty demonstrative of the producer's pallette, and includes music that'll sit real nice amongst that Soulection soundscape: Goldlink, Lunice, Sango, Flying Lotus, and a few more that make us happy to see on a tracklist feature. Feeling the mix? Flick through some of JR's productions to find more in the same vein.

8. Sukh Knight & Squarewave: Mix for KoolLondon Radio

Brothers in garms Sukh Knight and Squarewave stepped up to the plate on London's Kool FM not long ago to curate a collection of tracks for a result calmer than their usual, but still featuring that fire. Back to back first and then their own sets respectively, you can expect to hear tasty tracks sitting around their familiar dubstep tempo with music from Benga, Goth Trad, and P Money doing his version of 'Jumpman'. Decent. Disclaimer: includes some chatting from the guys between songs, but it's all good.

9. Elijah & Skilliam presents Japanese Grime Allstars: Live in Tokyo

If you, like us, have a somewhat limited knowledge of the grime scene in Japan, this session overseen by Elijah and Skilliam should hopefully be the remedy. "We returned to Tokyo in January, and Pakin brought together some of Japan's finest MCs and Producers for us for an allstar showcase," they explain. Whilst your Japanese may or may not be rusty, the good thing about music is it's ability to transcend language, and no more so when you're listening to a flurry of MC's doing their thing in a familiar style, but in a completely foreign language.

10. Sam Tiba x FS Green x SIROJ: KLEAR Podcast #006

Ahead of their forthcoming two-year anniversary, Dutch clubnight Klear called up a few of those featuring in their celebratory line-up to create a cool little back-to-back; between Sam Tiba, FS Green and SirOJ.

"With just 3 weeks left and an excitement level 10 out of 10 we asked Sam Tiba, FS Green and SIROJ to do a special collabo. Everyone made his own selection of tracks and swapped it with someone else. SIROJ made a 20-minute mix of Sam Tiba’s selection (Ch.1). FS Green made one of SIROJ’s selection (Ch.2) and Sam Tiba made one of FS Green’s selection(Ch.3). "The result? This 60-minute-killer-podcast!"

11. Ruckazoid: Killin' DJ's Vol. 2

Not often do we feature people/producers who are able to say they've developed their own turntable, and less so do we hear any mixes made by one, but Ruckazoid isn't your run-of-the-mill turntablist. The Breakbot collaborator and DJ Shadow associate used equipment he developed with Vestax to present part two of his own mix series.

"Killin' DJ's is an audio documentary. Each track was performed using the first musical turntable I invented called the Controller One. Everything was improvised. One take. Each track played in the order it was created. Popularity fades, classic is forever."

Or for the next 20 minutes, at least.
