Best Free Downloads of the Week

Every Sunday we collect the best free music we can find and put it all in one place. If you fell behind or just feel like building up your iTunes, we've got you covered. Here are the week's best free downloads, in no particular order.

1.

2. the derevolutions - "Have You Ever Been To Washington?"

Allow the derevolutions take you down a psychedelic tour of American history on their latest single, "Have You Ever Been To Washington?"

The song contains sly, pointed political commentary on a lyrical level ("Hey Mr. President man / or Mrs. President ma'am / do you get dressed by yourself / with that mechanical hand"), and has guitar riffs for days on the sonic side. Their self-assured songwriting rarely disappoints, and this irresistible sing-along is no exception.

3. JD. Reid - "Cannon"

JD. Reid came through this week with "Cannon," another strong mix of dance music and hyper-modern percussion. Glitchy synths bounce around the punishing beat, with Reid's percussion providing a steely foundation. It's been just over a year since his Amethyst project, and JD. Reid has only gotten better with time.

4. Chet Faker - "In Between"

When you're snowed in, it's important to stay occupied. Otherwise, cabin fever starts to set in, and your cozy dwelling can start to feel like a prison. The cat looks like he has a plan, the plants starts whipering to each other—suddenly you're an enemy in your own home.

Luckily, Chet Faker stayed busy when New York's recent blizzard kept him shut up in the studio, and Chet emerged with this electrifying instrumental. The Australian artist lays a warning speech from Bill de Blasio over some jangly guitars and some slow-pulsing horns, echoing the slow, relentless build of a blizzard in the process.

5. Jacquees ft. Rich Homie Quan - "Come Thru"

Georgia native and Cash Money signee Jacquees recently shared his latest mixtape, Mood. First things first: Jacquees has a sweet voice that is easy to love. But the fact that the tape features Birdman, Dej Loaf, Rich Homie Quan, and more seals the deal. But things really click on this one. Jacquees and Quan offer up a lighthearted R&B single on "Come Thru," expertly using a sample from Cameo's 1986 single "Candy."

6. Javon Johnson - "Oh Lord"

Houston rapper Javon Johnson shared his latest EP The Outer Limits earlier this week. The five-track project paints a vivid picture of his world through a unique blend of vocal samples, rhythms, and lyrics.

One of the most attention grabbing tracks on the EP is the third track, "Oh Lord." The infectious loop works to pull listeners forward in a hypnotic fashion. But the mesmerizing beat is only the cherry on top, because Javon Johnson is perfectly capable to captivating listeners on his own.

7. Finding Novyon - "Leave It Alone"

Finding Novyon had a big year with the success of "Lots," his single with Allan Kingdom, and the warm reception to his full-length project, #TheFoodNetwork.

He returned with Super Saiyan EP this week to kick off another big year. Novyon opened the project with hard hitters, but things take a turn towards the end with "Leave It Alone." This track shows that there are still layers to his sound to be uncovered, levels yet to be reached.

8. Lil Wayne - "Cry Out (Amen) [Remastered]"

Lil Wayne's track "Cry Out (Amen)" first surfaced in 2006. Though the track was never properly mixed and master or even officially released, dedicated fans have still appreciated it for the past decade.

As a way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the fan favorite, the track's producer, StreetRunner, released the remastered version of the track along with the instrumental.

9. Marvel Alexander - "These N****s Lying"

GoldLink isn't the only one sick of people lying in their raps. Marvel Alexander threw his hat in that particular ring this week with "These N****s Lying." The Hackensack rapper spits truths over a tough beat from Hovey Benjamin of Modern Outfit. Marvel knows he's a dual threat, and he's presenting proof to the world with every passing song.

10. 2 Chainz - "This Me, F*ck It"

2 Chainz has certainly found his lane, and lately, he never seems to disappoint. This week the rapper surprised fans with a new mixtape titled Felt Like Cappin. The tape features production from Mike WiLL Made It, Zaytoven, and TM88. One of the standouts, "This Me, Fuck It," benefits from a hypnotic Timbaland beat. Let's hope we hear more from these two in the future.

11. Goon des Garcons - "Back On The Rd"

Arkansas rapper Goon des Garcons is ready to direct everyone's attention to his hometown of Little Rock, and he's doing it with his new EP, FORTHETIMEBEING.

He kicks down the door with the opening track "Back On The Rd." The beat hits so hard, smacking you straight in the chest. If Goon des Garcons didn't have your attention before this, there's no doubt that he does now.

12. ManMan Savage ft. Juggman Skip - "Payroll"

Chicago-born, Atlanta-based rapper ManMan Savage returned with new music to kick off the year. His 15-track mixtape, #FreeManManSavage2, features hard beats sure to bust speakers with their generous bass. But "Payroll" (with a choice feature from Juggman Skip) may be the catchiest track of the bunch.

13. Ghost Hours - "Oneness"

Ghost Hours is a singer, composer, and producer from California. He only has three songs on his SoundCloud right now, but the small selection shows the range of both his vocal ability and his production skills. His latest track, "Oneness," quickly transitions from feeling eerie to shockingly beautiful and tranquil—an odd combination that somehow, feels just right.
