On the newest episode of The Mortified Podcast, a new segment called “The Mortified Muse” was introduced, where artists turn teenage love letters and poems into songs. The first artist to participate is CHVRCHES, and they turned Nat Miller’s outpouring of young emotion into a peppy tune.

When Miller was 14 years old, he wrote a song for a girl named Laurel, who he said he barely even know. Regardless, in his senior year yearbook, in the “class will,” he left his muse a song, which has now been turned into a song called “Laurel” by CHVRCHES.

The lyrics are as cheesy as as you would expect from an early high schooler, but when sung by Lauren Mayberry, they don’t sound too far off from modern pop music… although “Loneliness is a book without words” is a brutal lyric.

Listen to the song below, starting at the 25-minute mark.
