Sam Smith has an incredible voice that matches the late Amy Winehouse. He recently covered Winehouse’s “Love is a Losing Game” which premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show and nailed the “monster of a song.”

The cover will appear on Smith’s deluxe reissue of his 2014 breakout album, In the Lonely Hour. “In the moment we wanted to try it […] and everything just kind of came together in a very beautiful way and it felt like a moment so I wanted to share it,” Smith explains on how the cover was recorded. Speaking with Annie he also recounted when he saw the recent Amy Winehouse doc, Amy, and explained her influence on his career:

“I saw the film recently and, sometimes, people forget my age. I was 11 years old when Frank came out […] and that album has really shaped me as an artist and my views on music and my relationship with music, lyrically. Seeing that film brought me back to that moment of being 11 years old — her rawness on such beautiful chords, on such expensive chords.”
