While there are lots of ways to describe Los Angeles-based rapper/singer Broderick Batts’ alluring new single “Wavey,” it’s probably best to dive into it with a description from the artist himself:
“I wanted to write a song that was the musical equivalent of being on Ambien while getting a blow job.”
“Wavey” builds on buoyant production courtesy of Elliphant collaborator Tommy Tysper, matching a beat that’s simultaneously propulsive and mellow with Batts’ lusty musings. “Wavey” feels like a fitting continuation of Batts’ 2001 Odyssey EP, a slicker and more ambitious evolution of the sounds and ideas he explored on his debut work that also showcases his improving range as a vocalist.
