It’s common knowledge that the majority of music festivals are overpowered by male acts. Each year festivals continue to get bigger and bigger, but no matter how long the lineup may be, women remain the minority. This is something that many women in the music industry (as well as fans) would like to see change. Ellie Goulding recently spoke out about how she feels about the issue.

In an upcoming cover story for the December issue of Cosmopolitan, Ellie Goulding expressed her frustration with the male dominated lineups and called out one festival in particular. “I got annoyed when Glastonbury had so many men on the line-up,” said Goulding. It’s clear that men control much more within the music industry than just the lineups, and this is something that just doesn’t sit well with Goulding. “I get annoyed when men write degrading songs about women,” she added. “But women are starting to speak out.”

However, seeing Florence + The Machine earn the headlining position at this year’s Glastonbury festival did seem to give her a bit of optimism: “Then Florence headlined. Things are changing, you know? And I love it.”
