Premiere: Christine and The Queens - "Paradis Perdus"

With features from Tunji Ige and Perfume Genius on their upcoming self-titled release, Christine and The Queens are prepped to break into the U.S. in a big way.

Today, a new piece of evidence is entered in the case: “Paradis Perdus” is a “reinterpretation and mashup” of two songs: French artist Christophe’s “Paradis Perdus,” and Kanye West’s “Heartless.” Christine explained the competing influences thusly:

“Christophe is a true reference, because of the melancholic dandyism of his songs, his quality and his constantly renewed boldness. ‘Paradis Perdus’ sounds like a song ‘prepared’ for Christine. I’ve decided to mold it into a composite object, inserting this English chorus, like a drop out. The decency of the French verses and the raw lament of the chorus keep on swallowing each other. Is it anger? Nostalgia? Maybe both…”

However it makes you feel, “Paradis Perdus” will make you feel. It’s a moody, sensual trip into the mind of a musical chameleon, proof that Christine’s taste is as impeccable as her own compositions. You can pre-order their album here, check the tour dates, and stream “Paradis Perdus” below.
