2. ILOVEMAKONNEN - "Big Gucci"

Makonnen is from Atlanta, so some level of Gucci Mane fandom is to be expected. But the shroom-loving rapper went the extra mile for the national Gucci holiday of 10/17, releasing two songs for the occasion. "Big Gucci" features Makonnen firing off rhymes in the style of his beloved, with a chorus that makes sure we know he "can't wait 'till big Gucci get out."

3. Luka - "Lowdown"

Luka is a master of down-tempo instrumentals. He's following in the footsteps of greats like Nujabes and finds common ground with modern beatsmiths like Jon Hopkins and Bonobo, pulling sounds and samples from unexpected places to create songs that are more like feelings, ideas, and memories.

"Lowdown" is one such creation. It never stirs above it's steady drone, but the song's power is in that restraint—flutes and guitar float over cloudy synths, and the world turns just a little bit slower.

4. Merlyn Wood - "Lazy Wood"

Merlyn Wood may be an integral member of the Brockhampton collective, but like so many of the group's members, he can snap all by his lonesome.

This week, Merlyn released "Lazy Wood," a bouncy, aggressive cut that is heavy on the nihilism and dirty talk. The song is filled with unexpected twists and turns, and Merlyn ties it all together with a gift of gab that comes easy despite his young age.

5. Monte Booker ft. Smino - "Kolors"

Indie label Soulection continues to grow bigger with each passing week, which is exactly how it should be, given their consistent output of quality music.

Since 2013, the label has been releasing short EPs from rising artists for their White Label Series. The latest, and 16th installment, comes from 20-year-old Chicago-based producer Monte Booker. The standout track "Kolors" is a bouncy song featuring St. Louis rapper Smino.

6. Montell2099 - "What's Your Name"

Montell2099 is a producer from Auckland, New Zealand who has been quietly making waves on SoundCloud. For his latest track, he flips a sample of Busta Rhymes and Pharrell's 2003 single "Light Your Ass On Fire."

It's hard to compete with the booming, bass-heavy beat of the original so, he didn't. Instead, he layered the vocal samples over his own bouncy rhythm that smooths out into a jazzier vibe near the end.

7. FRENSHIP - "Nowhere"

FRENSHIP is a LA-based duo with quite the eclectic sound—their latest single, "Nowhere," clearly draws from various musical influences. Pop, dance, and just a little disco make "Nowhere" a lighthearted, breezy record that simply feels good.

8. Appleby ft. Anthony White - "Glossy Ride"

Appleby continues to show his versatility within each new release. He follows up the more dramatic "Bitter Boy" with another vibe completely on "Glossy Ride." The feel of the track matches the title perfectly—the bouncy mid-tempo song seems like it was made specifically for long, brooding, drives late at night.

9. Richie Quake - "4 U I Care"

Brooklyn-based artist Richie Quake specializes in lo-fi, woozy R&B-inspired tracks. His latest, "4 U I Care," is a clear ode to a special someone. While some slower, romantic records can often feel as if they could be about anyone, listening to "4 U I Care" could convince any listener that Richie is singing directly to them.

10. West1ne - "Tonight"

Film Noir is an independent label stacked with young producers from all around the world. Anyone that follows their SoundCloud is well aware of how much new music they are constantly putting out. This week Film Noir released Cinema Black—a 10-track mixtape featuring a cross-section of their best and brightest. The opening track, "Tonight," comes from West1ne. It features a booming, bubbly beat that tweaks a sample of Lucy Pearl's "Dance Tonight" to add a little something extra to the impressive track.

11. Alison Wonderland - "Take It To Reality (Justin Jay Remix ft. Benny Bridges)"

There's a heartbeat-like rhythm to Justin Jay and Benny Bridges remix of "Take It To Reality" that give the proceedings an addictive, menacing quality. The duo transforms Alison Wonderland's single into a suspenseful cut that would sound at home on a soundtrack—the cinematic qualities reach their height when the remix completely slows down at the middle of the track, making way for an unexpected transition that makes the rest of the listening experience a victory lap.

12. Mikkoh + Decoteau - ""Swayzae"

Together, these two are known as MIKOTEAU. And when you add a Missy Elliott sample to the mix, there's a very bright future unfolding in front of the duo. "Swayzae" is their debut track, and it's the kind of experimental dance track that's perfect for a late-night boost or a kickstart to the night.

13. Chløë Black - "27 Club (Fhin Flip)"

Earlier this year, singer Chløë Black made a song about the infamous 27 Club. Though it's a very morbid subject, there are still many people who glamorize the idea of dying in their prime and being idolized forever. Chløë Black's song "27 Club" is as haunting as the subject matter demands. But for this remix, Fhin tweaks it to create a much bubblier rhythm that seems to lighten up the topic, at least for a moment.

14. TastyTreat ft. Tribes - "Found Someone"

These days, artists are constantly pushing the fixed boundaries of genre by blending multiple sounds and influences. All that matters at the end of the day, however, is if the music is enjoyable. This is the case for TastyTreat and Tribes' track "Found Someone"—it blends classic piano with bouncy beats and R&B-influenced melodies and lyrics. More importantly, however, it goes.

15. Yogi Split ft. Celia Inside - "Down"

"Down" will have you dancing from the jump—Yogi Split's voice is straight heavenly, and when his vocals intertwine with Celia Inside, woodland creatures of the world pop their heads up in appreciation. This is a love song with heart, legs, and feet. Add this one to the bedroom playlist ASAP.

16. KRNE - "Movin"

At this point, we can be sure to expect some serious climatic bursts of sounds from any new KRNE track. And yet, each time he releases something new, the heights he reaches within the production seems to still blow us away. KRNE's latest track "Movin" kicks off with a piano melody that sounds like a chopped-and-screwed version of Billy Joel, but the nostalgia is quickly cut short when the beat builds up and explodes into infinite fragments of sound. Absolutely massive track.
