Milwaukee’s Mic Kellogg exudes positivity. Even in moments when he’s reflective or seemingly down on his luck on debut album Breakfast, his voice and lyrics carry a sense of hope for brighter days and better times. Standouts “By 3,” single “Tune Out,” and “Sunrise” all balance melancholy with a striving translated both by Kellogg’s expressive, melodic rapping—a tool wielded effectively across Breakfast‘s 13 songs. As a whole, Breakfast is an impressive, cohesive introduction to a prodigious talent (Kellogg also produced the entire album). Get lost in it.
