Last night’s guests on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert couldn’t have been more different. First up was Donald Trump, on the campaign trail to become the Republican candidate for the 2016 presidential election, sitting down with Colbert for an interview.
The broadcast ended with a live performance from Raury, who took the stage to perform “Devil’s Whisper” wearing a Mexico soccer jersey. When the first chorus hit after around 1 minute 30 seconds, Raury turned around to reveal Trump’s name on the jersey, crossed out with a big red X. On the subject of Mexican immigrants, Trump has previously said, “They’re bringing drugs.They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” amongst other offensive and insensitive comments. He has also advocated building a wall along the US-Mexico border.
Raury, performing on national television for the first time, decided to take a stand, and we salute him for it. He told VICE News backstage: “Trump embodies separation, solving problems with anger, fear, and personal differences. I’m all about the opposite, about being inclusive and open.”
