New Jersey-based mystery artist Blood Cultures piqued the interest of many when he released the gorgeously anthemic “Indian Summer” all the way back in 2013, following that up with two more tracks far removed from one another. After “Mercury Child” and “Meavy Hetal,” it seemed as if he was gearing up to release something bigger, or at the very least, reveal himself. But nope, he’s still anonymous, giving us over a year of silence post “Meavy Hetal.”

Thankfully, he’s finally returned with “Scenes From a Midnight Movie.” Judging from the 01 before the track on SoundCloud, it could very well be that this is the first track from his long-awaited debut project, possibly even titled Happy Birthday. It’s full of the same lo-fi vocals and muffled atmospherics as his previous output, but there’s a cloudier sound to the vibrant bursts of synths that accompany key sections of this particular song.

If “Indian Summer” was the sunrise, then “Scenes” is the dramatic sunset. It’s a fantastic return, even if it is a little low-key. Here’s hoping this a sign of things to come from Blood Cultures, as a full project of his lovely tropical melodies would really hit the spot right about now.
