UPDATE (08/27/15): After Tyler and his manager Clancy posted about how Tyler had been banned from entering the UK for a very long time, the UK Home Office has responded. Claiming him visiting the UK is “not conducive to the public good,” the statement is a load of hot air, making it seem all the weirder that Tyler is denied entry into the country but on the other hand Eminem, who frequently has lyrics of a more explicit nature, isn’t penalized for his lyrical content. Read the response below, and the original story below that.

Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.

Tyler, the Creator recently had to cancel his entire Australian tour due to a petition that called for the rejection of his travel visa. Instead of waiting for the Australian government to make their final decision, Tyler decided to end the drama and cancel the tour on his own. Unfortunately those petitions got exactly what they wanted. However, it looks like the drama doesn’t end there.

Earlier this week, Tyler announced via Twitter that he wouldn’t be playing multiple shows throughout the UK. Today he followed up with more bad news for fans—not only is he canceling a few shows, but he actually won’t be allowed in the UK for the next 3-5 years. According to his message on Twitter, the new ban is related to some of his lyrics from 2009.

Tyler’s manager Christian Clancy further explained the horrible situation in a tumblr post. Clancy wrote that they received a letter from the Secretary of State for the Home Department of the United Kingdom. According to Clancy, the Secretary of State wrote that “his work ‘encourages violence and intolerance of homosexuality’ and ‘fosters hatred with views thats seek to provoke others to terrorist acts…'”

Although these multiple cancelled tours seem like bad business for Tyler, the Creator. These bans will surely increase sales in the future. Because it’s well known that fans always want what they can’t have. Regardless of that fact, 3-5 years is a very long time to wait, so we can only hope some glimmer of good news will come out at sooner than later.
