We were intrigued by Max Wonders as soon as we heard “88 Changes.” The young Chicago artist, alongside producer and frequent collaborator Sowle, spun a hypnotic web with a warm multi-layered beat, honest lyrics, and a melodic delivery. Here was a rapper forging his own path with his own sound, and when we spoke to him for our Daily Discovery piece, he explained that he draws influence from Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Lou Reed as much as Outkast and Lil Wayne.

With a lot more music on the way this year, Max Wonders is back today with “TV Off,” coming with a colorful beat that bumps hard and a message that all of us who spend so much time staring at screens—TV, phone, computer, or otherwise—can relate to.

Max explained over email, “The song really is the essence of today’s world. We have the entire world outside of our windows, yet we’re so consumed in the virtual realities that merely mock that world. I just made it a bit catchier and fun sounding, ha! It also plays a part with me being happier, as the song progresses I get more confident and come outside of this shell that I’m inside of when the song begins. It’s a story for sure.”

Get into “TV Off” below, and look out for more music from Max Wonders coming very soon. Just don’t blame us if you have that low-key catchy hook stuck in your head for the rest of the week…
