Following up a song as charged as “W H I T E L I O N Z” is a tall task. But MARZ LÉON hasn’t made a habit of releasing bad music, and to think she would start on her birthday is straight laughable.
To the point: “HRTBAQ” is another impressive addition to MARZ LÉON’s catalogue, a dark, swirling track that pits the singer’s vocals against an (initially) angelic organ and some sharp drumline percussion. Things ramp up in the second third, when a pitched vocal loop enters to give the proceedings a menacing edge.
“HRTBAQ” was produced by Charlie Handsome, with additional production coming from Jamil “Digi” Chammas and FKi 1st, of Post Malone fame.
Through it all, LÉON’s husky, heartsick voice carries the day. It’s a fittingly majestic, optimistic track for a birthday premiere. Here’s to many more.
