Borderline super-producer Sophie has been collaborating outside of his familiar circle so far this year, with some arguably mixed results. Whether you liked Sophie or not, his track with Diplo and Madonna was a hard sell. His latest collaboration, though? Probably one of the best pairings imaginable with his polarizing sound. After a period of silence, Le1f is finally back with the bombastic and colorful Sophie-produced “Koi.”
Harkening back to some of the crazier production choices found on his early mixtapes, “Koi” benefits from its super over-the-top stab-heavy production. Vibrantly bouncing over the bright beat, Le1f’s signature subdued cadence juxtaposes surprisingly well against the glossy synths. “Koi” is the first single to be taken from Le1f’s upcoming debut album Riot Boi, which is due for release sometime later this year through Terrible Records.
