Janelle Monáe Shared a #BLM Message on 'Today' and NBC Cut Her Off

Watch a clip of the questionable decision.

Last Friday, Janelle Monáe visited NBC’s Today stage to sing 2010’s “Tightrope” and this year’s “Yoga,” among other songs, alongside Jidenna and the rest of Wondaland. Host Savannah Guthrie regrettably chose to talk over Monáe as she ended her “Tightrope” performance with a message of support for the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

“God bless America,” the Atlanta artist was recorded saying while onstage. “God bless all, all the lost lives to police brutality. We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know that we stand tall today. We will not be silenced.”

Watch a clip of the Today performance below. A video of the suspect decision to cut short Monáe’s statement is embedded above.
