Earlier this year, we crossed paths with a URL collective called Moving Castle. We were initially drawn in by Maryland-based producer Dirty Chocolate (a.k.a. Emmanuel Osemene), who is also affiliated with Alaya. He’s worked on music for Ace Cosgrove, but his solo material was more of a mystery.

With cute song titles like “Emoji Girl” and “Golden Tears,” it’s easy to write off this producer as another twenty-something hybrid of internet culture. To do so would be a mistake. The beats always hit hard, the bass goes deep, and Dirty Chocolate is fully capable of transporting you to another dimension of sound.

Today, we’re premiering his brand new Holo EP. The project features four original tracks containing fragments of melodic trap and hip-hop (“Hologram,” “Infinity”) with gentle hints of R&B layered in the mix (“Multiverse,” “Underwater Level”). The simplest way to describe it would be “dreamscape,” but even if he’s someone with his head in the clouds, it sounds like a place we want to be.

“The Holo EP to me is a sonic representation of where my head is at the moment,” Dirty Chocolate said in an email. “I wanted to let the audience kind of journey through the things that I feel and imagine; at times very mellow and relaxed, and other times very chaotic and emotional. Which is why I named it Holo (for Hologram). This EP in a way is a projection of part of my consciousness to my audience.”

Dirty Chocolate’s Holo EP officially drops August 31 via Skrillex’s NEST HQ imprint — but you can stream it below now.
