Stefan Ponce is having a great 2015, with his stock as a producer continuing to rise. Just yesterday we shared Mick Jenkins’ Ponce-produced “Get Up Get Down,” and in April there was Vic Mensa and Kanye West’s bombastic “U Mad.” Oh, and not to mention the small matter of a Grammy nomination as the producer of Childish Gambino’s “3005” (nominated for best rap performance at the 2015 Grammys).
Don’t make the mistake, however, of pigeonholing Stefan Ponce as “just another rap producer.” As the lush, never formulaic beats he supplies MCs suggest, this producer can turn his hand to different styles with ease.
“Forever Julie” is an upbeat, housey tune, perfect for poolside parties and long, warm nights. With an unnamed female singer (she wants to stay secret for the moment) on vocals, Stefan Ponce and D. Phelps provide bright keys and a bouncy bassline on this bright summery track.
