Premiere: Evian Luciani - "LVCCI" EP

Baltimore's Evian Luciani puts a bizarre spin on modern R&B with his three song "LVCCI" EP.

Baltimore rapper/producer Evian Luciani’s three song EP LVCCI feels aesthetically and sonically like the product of a brain plagued by the question “what would happen if I mixed hip-hop, R&B, and The Silence of the Lambs?”

With a darkness that verges on camp, LVCCI plays like an experiment in the sounds and signifiers of modern R&B—project closer “Rihanna” feels grimly earnest and a bit goofy as a result, but it’s not that farfetched to imagine it in the hands of a Travis $cott or PartyNextDoor. If anything, LVCCI is an exercise in executing current sounds with some experimental flair and pushing listeners to examine the genre that’s lending so much to the hip-hop landscape without yet dominating it commercially. Imperfect and occasionally hypnotic food for thought.
