Lupe Fiasco took to Twitter last night and shared his two cents on the Meek Millā€“Drake debacle with a pair of Instagram posts. Each complete with essay-length captions, they find the often-outspoken rapper articulating the importance of song craft overĀ record sales andĀ other measures of mainstream success.

Fiasco unabashedly recognized hip-hop ghostwritingā€™s long history (much of Sugarhill Gangā€™sĀ 1979 hitā€Rapperā€™s Delightā€ was stolen, after all). HeĀ went as far as toā€”accuratelyā€”stateĀ some of the genreā€™s most pivotal verses came from uncredited pens. He only begins to take issueĀ if an artist actively trumpets the illusion he or she is solely responsible for the wordsĀ we hear when that is not in fact the case, making for a breach of authenticity.

Below youā€™ll find Fiascoā€™s viewsĀ on the matter; he ends the blurb on a positive note, pointing to the internet-blazing reactions, no matter the side, as a strong sign rap is still very much alive. Expect more hot takes from other artists and industry insiders to arise in the aftermath of Meekā€™s rant.
