On his second EP of 2015, Illinois’ Kweku Collins strips himself of most ceilings. The melodies are stronger, the instruments brighter, his outlook holistic and happy. Say It Here, While It’s Safe plays like the sounds of a sunny haven, with vague Caribbean influences and accented deliveries dotting the project.

A left-alone sample of Daughter’s ethereal “Wild Youth” drives the previously released “Lonely Lullabies,” which features overlaid singing similar to that on the respective hooks of “Kings” and “Colors.” The soundscapes here are almost entirely the product of Collins alone. Boathouse provides some co-production, but the effort is mostly self-made.

Listen to Collins’ excellent EP below, out now on Closed Sessions.
