N.W.A. reunited (minus Dr. Dre) for the first time in more than 25 years last night during the BET Experience show at L.A.’s Staples Center. Together, Ice Cube, MC Ren, and DJ Yella brought it all the way back with renditions of “Fuck tha Police” (with stirring images of recent incidences of police brutality in the background), and “Chin Check” (with a little help from Snoop Dogg).
According to Billboard and Rolling Stone, the long-awaited reunion — which was organized by Cube to build buzz ahead of this summer’s N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton — also included performances of “Straight Outta Compton” (naturally), “8 Ball,” and “Gangsta Gangsta.”
