Video Premiere: Asha - "We Can Do This"

It’s 2015, and by now we’ve seen some crazy things in music videos. I mean just look at the visuals for Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.” It’s essentially a mini-film and boasts an all-star cast and visuals effects that would embarrass a Michael Bay production. When it comes to visual accompaniments in today’s age, it seems everyone’s trying to outdo each other in an desperate attempt to make a mark in a world that’s losing steam.

But in order to do that, more isn’t always necessarily more. Take Asha’s new video for her gorgeous, soulful new single “We Can Do This.” The clip is filmed in black-and-white and features the London singer performing the song while sitting on a stool in the middle of an empty room. That’s it, but that’s all it really needs. The simplicity of the shots–some zoomed in on her eyes, some farther away–allow us as viewers to properly take away from the song what’s really important: her compelling mix of vulnerability, power, and yearning.

“We Can Do This” is the first release from her upcoming EP, watch the clip above.
