The Best New Mixes Streaming Right Now

Saving you the time, effort, and a relatively minuscule amount of bandwidth usage, it's the thought music that matters when it comes to creating our bi-weekly broad stroke look at some of the best new mixes currently floating around on the interwebz.

For example, there's FaltyDL's first broadcast for East Village Radio in which he provides a rare example of occasional narration during a mix being a positive. And then there's the quincentenary episode of Fact's longstanding mix series, which was slam dunked by Scotland's own S-Type.

Other fresh contributions from people like Club Cheval and Phaeleh feature alongside some throwback selections by way of a back-to-back between Hyperdub label boss Kode9 and Flying Lotus, and a sun-soaked serving of rare Middle Eastern vinyl circa 1968 from Jakarta Records' Jannis. Not forgetting one of the largest gatherings of MCs we've seen for a minute for a Radar Radio special, let's stop the talk and start listening to some awesome music shall we?

1.

2. FaltyDL: 'Afternoon DLight' for East Village Radio #1

Easy listening, meaning music that's easy to listen to and not just elevator music, from the man known as both Drew Lustman and FaltyDL on his debut broadcast for the folks at East Village Radio.

Including goodies from the man himself, some previously unheard Luke Vibert and a variety of electronically-geared gems, FaltyDL's narration is a rare instance of airwave chatter adding to the warmth of the overall result as appose to detracting from it.

3. How To Dress Well: Diplo & Friends Mix

Another of Diplo's 'friends' does it again on a mix filled to the rim with R&B just right for when you find yourself in direct sunlight wearing your swimming costume. How To Dress Well is the alias of singer-songwriter Tom Krell, and he detailed some of the reasoning behind his song choices, as well as defending the inclusion of certain tracks in what Diplo had requested to be a strictly R&B session.

"To me, R&B, rock, pop or whatever – pretty much every genre doesn't really exist. It's just a general heading, under which stuff is gathered and people are going to argue about what's gathered under there. So I put together a pretty weird mix of songs that to my mind are R&B. There are some classic names in there – songs from Janet Jackson and The Dream to Mariah Carey, Babyface – but I also included songs from Palmistry, Popcaan.. I also included a track from Young Thug's newest record which I think is so emotionally beautiful and intense that to me, for some reson, fits into what I would call 'R&B'. I also included a song by N*Sync which I think is an absolute classic."

Tom, you had us at Janet Jackson.

4. PBDY: Upfront Mix 028 for Boiler Room

"This mix is mostly unreleased upcoming music on my label TAR as well as some unreleased gems from friends + family. Lots of footwork, jungle, dark vibes, things to sweat to & things to give us our hope back. You guys asked for something special so here it is: a preview of the rest of 2015, a bit of 2016 & few cuts for the heads."

"You guys" referring to the Boiler Room team, Brainfeeder affiliate and label-boss PBDY summed it up pretty well on his mix for BR's Upfront mix series, bringing a bevvy of beastly beats straight to your cerebellum.

5. Jannis of Jakarta Records: Habibi Funk 003 Vinyl Mix

With zero tracks that were made after 1990 included, Jakarta Records' man in charge Jannis Stürtz whipped out a selection of Middle Eastern jams from the '60s and '70s for the third installment of his 'Habibi Funk' mix series.

Featuring music from Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon, the funk is strong with this one. And hey, if you’re anywhere near Paris on July 3, you can catch Jannis doing his thing IRL at the Institute Du Monde Arab.

6. JETS: JETS Radio Vol. II / Dimensions Mix

Not necessarily greater than the sum of their parts but still pretty great in any case, the ongoing collaborative outings by Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum make us happy whenever they happen to come up.

This time, the duo better known as JETS dropped the second installment of their own personal mix series, with this one paying special mind to Sonar Festival, and including a healthy amount of previously unheard tracks for you to be getting on with.

7. S-Type: FACT Mix #500

The list of participants in Fact Magazine's mix series reads like a comprehensive who's who of the producers, DJs, and musicians that make our world go round. So little surprise when they approached LuckyMe signee S-Type to mark the occasion of their 500th mix with a buffet of bass-heavy bangers.

Namely, there's some unreleased TNGHT (!), but also included on the tracklist for this most monumentous mix are tracks by Kaytranada, Cashmere Cat, Mele, DJ Paypal, and couple more we'll just let you discover for yourself.

8. Club Cheval: Quest Mix for Annie Nightingale

Electronic supergroup/boyband/quartet comprised of French producers Canblaster, Sam Tiba, Myd, and Panteros666 and better known as Club Cheval kicked up a cracking hour of piano-heavy house and hip-hop blends for Annie Nightingale's late-night show on BBC Radio 1.

Following the release of their track "From the Basement to the Roof," the mix mainly includes music from each of the guys, but there are also some familiar names on the tracklist including music from Tinashe, Ginuwine, Brandy, and a bit of Drake for good measure.

9. Phaeleh: Deep Heads Dubstep Vol.2 (Full Album Mix)

Now available to purchase as an album in it's own right, the dudes at Deep Heads delivered a mix of their latest compilation Deep Heads Dubstep Vol.2 in full, featuring tracks from Synkro, Submotion Orchestra, Reso, Biome, and a bunch more—it's all expertly mixed by that fella Phaeleh. 11. Kode9 & Flying Lotus: Rinse FM Mix (20th November 2007)

Kindly shared on his Soundcloud earlier this week, Hyperdub's head honcho Kode9 dusted off and posted up a cracking collaborative mix which was originally broadcast on Rinse FM a few years back, complete with an intro from Kode9 himself denoting the tracks contained therein as "some of the most disgusting music I've heard for a while" courtesy of his guest at the time Flying Lotus.
