The Best New Mixes Streaming Right Now

Having now reached the halfway summit in a hectic year of music, and with festival season in full effect too, it's sometimes difficult to keep track of not only new and emerging artists, but also new music released discreetly by people you already know and love.

In addition to the rolling coverage of the best new music available on Pigeons & Planes on a daily basis, we also like to take a minute every couple of weeks to share our amassment of amazing mixes that have soundtracked our long commutes, our working weeks, and a couple of 5-in-the-morning post-club afterchill sessions, too.

This time round we have two hours of heaters from Hotflush label boss Scuba by way of a BBC Essential Mix, The 2 Bears serve up a special mix made with Spain's Sónar festival in mix, Toddla T releases a taster from his Australian tour, and a most bodacious collection of songs to surf to has been brought to us by members of hip-hop collective People Under The Stairs.

Scroll through to see which other mixes made the cut in this week's rundown of the best new mixes streaming right now.

1.

2. People Under The Stairs: Music To Board To Vol. 2

Surf's up. Hip-hop collective People Under The Stairs have come up with a way cool mix made specifically with the pursuit of seven foot waves in mind.

Somewhat out of the comfort zone of what the group has come to be known for, the peripheral sounds of the beach would be perfectly complimented by this collection of tracks, compiled by Thes One and Double K of People Under The Stairs. "This is a mix of our very favorite modern rock songs, tunes that keep us pumpin' on the road and inspire us to keep going."

3. Submerse: Slumber Session Mix for i-D Magazine

Something for the after-hours horde, this addition to i-D Magazine's Slumber Session series by Tokyo-based producer Submerse is a wonderful wind-down mix for anyone kicking their shoes off and making a cup of tea at their own little after-afterparty.

With a laid-back blend of blurred electronica, riveting R&B rattlings, heady hip-hop, piano breakdowns, and more, this mix is sweet enough that you may not need to add sugar to that cup of tea after all.

4. Toddla T: Australia 2015 Tour Mix

"To celebrate my debut Australian tour here's a mix I've done for you to download," reads the short but sweet introduction from Sheffield's sultan of skank Toddla T.

Perfect if you weren't anywhere near Perth during the last week, hit play (and possibly a couple of rewinds) on a mix that starts off with a little Snoop and Drake, switching it from 0-100 real quick and revving it up with some D&B, dancehall, dubplates, and a little more Drake for good measure.

5. Djemba Djemba: HARD Summer Music Festival 15 Mixtape Series #2

Doing his part in building excitement for the forthcoming HARD Summer Music Festival being held in Fairplex, South California, Djemba Djemba donned his party hat for a monster mix to reaffirm respective ticketholders' choice of summer festival this year.

Starting off with a Timbaland/Caribou bootleg and rarely (if at all) stepping a foot wrong from that point on, the second mix in the festival's mix series features a scorching selection of tracks from other people like Rustie, Rae Sremmurd, Joker, Beyonce, and a bunch of personal cuts courtesy of Djemba Djemba himself.

6. Drae Da Skimask: Mix 4 Astral Black

An introduction to man himself, and for many perhaps an intro to the label he's recently signed to, you clearly need to make yourself aware of both for good measure. Please meet Astral Black's new 19-year-old addition to their growing roster, the London-based producer Drae Da Skimask.

And so between playing at the label's showcase earlier this weekend and the release of his forthcoming 95 Mindfulness EP later this summer, this mix should suit anyone who likes blissed out hip-hop and rare R&B blends.

7. Scuba: BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

Returning to the hall of Essential Mix fame, the man known as Scuba stepped into the hot seat once again to deliver a deluge of deep, often dark tracks surrounding the release of his latest album Claustrophobia.

"The concept behind this mix has really come out of the sets I've been playing recently where I've been closing the night, where I've been playing the last set, almost going in the opposite direction that you might expect from a typical DJ set where you'd start off slowly and kind of build up. In this, I've really started off as if it was three in the morning and that party is going off, and towards the end of the mix, it's almost like the sun has come up and, you know, it's more of a kind of relaxed atmosphere...There's a lot of brand new music in the mix. Almost every track on there is an exclusive, loads of new tracks we've got coming on Hotflush, there's remixes of tracks from my album Claustrophobia which no one's heard before... so yeah, check it out!"

8. Nightwave: Truancy Mix, Volume 118

"I usually try and make something for people to stick on at a house party or on their way to a club. Same goes for the Truant mix, I put quite a few new tracks from my friends in there, a couple of upcoming Heka releases and some of my new stuff and remixes," said producer and DJ Maya Medvesek, better known as Nightwave, introducing he newest mix for Truants.

The Slovenian-born beatsmith/beat juggler jammed a bunch of stuff into a mix which, like most others of hers, will surely stand the test of time. Expect to hear a mishmash of music from Basement Jaxx, DJ Deeon, JME, Paul Johnson, as well as music from Maya herself and more.

9. Maxo: Mix for AM Discs

Making the case for maximalist, hugely energetic and cheerful music is a man who produces by the name Maxo, and whilst he's been making music for a minute, this mix may be his most accessible collection of music for people who might be uneducated.

Mainly consisting of his own music or collaborations he's worked on to date, he also manages to slip a Backstreet Boys remix right at the end which bafflingly seems to work well given the context of his hyperpop style.

10. The 2 Bears: Electronic Grooves Mix #528 (Sónar Special)

The London-based musical duo composed of Joe Goddard (of Hot Chip) and Raf Rundell and better known as The 2 Bears brought out a belting selection of tracks on a brilliant little mix made specially to psyche Sonar Festival attendees up a bit by teasing some of what to expect from the duo during the festival itself.

This is a mix for which trying to dissect the genres contained would be futile, so just hit play and find out for yourself.

11. Star Slinger: Mix #001 for MODNA

Technically the second contribution to Modna Magazine's mix series, burly beatsmith Star Slinger made an effort worthy of it's #001 spot with a selection featuring folks like Fleetwood Mac, Paul Woolford, Jamie xx and a few more, the musician from Manchester has made a mix that's actively difficult not to enjoy.

And on that note, we leave you with our list for said enjoyment, and we'll see you around the same time in a couple of weeks for more mixes galore.
