Each year as the crowds begin to grow, so does the lineup for Brooklyn’s AfroPunk Festival. This year the festival has expanded by having a recent show in Paris, as well as an upcoming one in Atlanta. The initial lineup for the two day Brooklyn festival has recently been announced and so far it looks bigger than ever.
AfroPunk is the perfect music festival to connect with strangers, and this year it’ll be the place to see a handful of legends together in one place. The festival returns to Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn on August 22 – 23. The initial lineup includes Lenny Kravitz, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Kaytranada, Danny Brown, Kelis, Thundercat, Lion Babe, GoldLink, Raury, Soulection and many more. The day before the festival, AfroPunk will also be hosting their first annual AfroPunk Fancy Dress Ball, which will be headlined by Grace Jones.
However, because last year’s audience grew to a massive 60,000 attendees (thanks to a rare D’Angelo performance), to assure entry into this year’s festival, tickets must either be purchased or earned. Through a program called AfroPunk Army, fans will be given the opportunity to do volunteer work in exchange for festival tickets. Doing various helpful good deeds like landscaping, meal preparation and serving, advocacy, and more, fans can enjoy another year of free entry into the festival.
