With her next album Anima due for release on June 2, Francesca Belmonte has released her stunning, iconic video for “Are You.” Employing an array of crystalline images and some beautiful Yeezus-era masks, Belmonte paint portraits as stark and edgy as the accompanying music.
We were first introduced to Belmonte when she appeared on Tricky’s “Does It.” Since then, Belmonte signed with the English rapper’s False Idols label, but “Are You” and Anima find the singer carving out a distinctly different sound than her earlier, collaborative work.
“Are You” is the album’s closer, a sleek, shimmering example of Belmonte’s new-age pop that may well draw comparisons to FKA Twigs and Son Lux.
