The Best New Mixes Streaming Right Now

1.

People who make a living from being a DJ, people who work on the Lottery, and most existentialists should appreciate the idea that you can't please everybody all of the time. The thing that makes the human race so great is the interaction of all our personal tastes—likes and dislikes—all with the potential to be both unifying and divisive. And in our latest rundown of the Best Mixes Streaming Right Now, we tried our best to tread the fine line of the former to (hopefully) present our most inclusive list yet.

Caught sleeping on Soulection's back-catalogue? There's a retropective mix which was made especially for Mixmag that you should probably check out. Do you like Ryan Hemsworth and rap music? Ready yourself for a forty-plus minutes of both. Something to start your week off right, you say? There's a lot to choose from here, but between Obey City, Dubbel Dutch, Four Tet, DJ Slimzee and more, we're sure you'll find something for the occasion.

Flick through the following list of our ten favorite mixes from the last two weeks and find musical enlightenment.

2. Andre Power: 100% Soulection Mix for Mixmag

Like a crash course for the label's signature sound, Soulection co-founder Andre Power has strung together a pretty solid introduction to Los Angeles-based imprint for anyone who might need it.

We've been fans for a minute and this concise look-back on a litany of lively tracks from its signees is described by Power as being "the sound of tomorrow." Sit back and learn a few things about Soulection, and if you already know, consider this your revision session.

3. Ryan Hemsworth X Frank & Oak: Just Rap Mix

With shows in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles still to go, rabble-rousers Ryan Hemsworth and Tommy Kruise have been touring together through the States getting turned on their 'Just Rap Mix' Tour.

On what to expect from the mix, and in turn the tour, Ryan explained, "This is the type of shit you should drive around and listen to when you’re feeling good. I also just wanted to introduce people to some different rappers. Tommy helped me with the selection as well because he knows every good rap song."

In response, Tommy had this to say: "It's mostly all the songs I sent to Ryan, don't believe the artwork it's my mix ‪#‎producerbeef‬."

4. Mndsgn: Stones Throw Podcast #92 'Frugal Earth (Pt.3)'

Also on tour across the Atlantic is Stones Throw artiste Mndsgn aka Ringgo Ancheta, and he too has thrown together a mix that's more than worthy of a place on this list.

The third episode of his 'Frugal Earth' mixtape series recently came in the form of a podcast for the label, fusing funked out R&B slow jams amongst a few familiar acapellas (the unfamilar ones making the absence of a tracklist all the more tantalising) and it quickly found it's way to our heart. Hopefully yours too.

5. DJ Yoda: Mix for i-D

A good selection of music, this is.

You'll rarely (if ever) be able to criticise serial cut-and-paster DJ Yoda of giving anything less than a lot of variety in his sets, speeding through a selection that'd set most parties off right. In this mix for i-D, he slips and slaps together tracks ranging from Isaac Hayes, Ice Cube, and The Isley Brothers to Destinys Child, De La Soul, and DMX; i.e. music by people who's names begin with either 'i' or 'd'.

We imagine the decision not to include Kendrick's "i" was a painful one to make for DJ Yoda, but this mix is great all the same!

6. Four Tet: Rinse FM Podcast

A mix from Four Tet is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're going to get, but suffice to say it's going to be tasty.

In this instance, the artist legally known as Kieran Hebden took the opportunity to ramp thing up a bit for Rinse FM, following the announcement of his forthcoming "Morning/Evening" release. Possibly a calculated indication of what to expect on the two-track release, or perhaps just a really good podcast of quality music sat on his hard drive, Four Tet once again does not fail to please.

7. DJ Slimzee: 1 Year of Slimzos Sessions on NTS Radio

Aired every other Thursday on NTS Radio, pirate radio pioneer and all-round top geezer DJ Slimzee celebrated the one-year anniversary of his bi-weekly show in true Slimzee style; with a stomping set that'll make you screwface more than once.

Slimzo's Sessions has been a go-to place for grime and garage scattered with a selection of Slimzee's dubplates, alongside which a guest or two has been known to appear. Gun fingers at the ready for a mix which is not suitable for your Monday morning commute.

8. Dubbel Dutch: Mix for Oak NYC

Describing themselves on their Soundcloud as a "NYC based cutting edge mens and women's designer clothing store," Oak NYC reached out to producer Dubbel Dutch to promote their wares by way of a mix, and the result is like well-fitted men's jacket in a burnt maroon.

Forgetting the the fact that this mix was made to promote a clothing store, you'll be sure to find a tailored selection of hip-hop, house, cumbia, and random glitchy gems.

9. Krywald and Farrer: Music To… Get Funky In The Sun To

Another mix we encountered courtesy of i-D Magazine was the following from British DJ duo Krywald and Farrer.

Upon being invited to put forward their own verb-related theme for the mix, we're happy that they opted to construct a collection of "music to get funky in the sun to."

If it's sunny where you are as you're reading this, please do us a favour by hitting play, and then describing on a scale of 1 to 10 exactly how funky you got in the comments section below.

10. Obey City: Mix for Gilles Peterson Worldwide

Last time a featured mixer and this time a curator, Gilles Peterson steps back from the turntables to resume normal programming on his radio show in which fresh talent is brought to the forefront.

This time it was New York-based producer, label boss, and general music head Sam Obey aka Obey City bringing his own brand of noise to the show. Take a seat and enjoy the fluctuations from slowed-down hip-hop to '80s synthesizers and beyond.

11. Deamonds: Guest Mix for THUMP

Rinse FM resident Deamonds is a girl's best friend. A boy's too, assuming they like large doses of bass.

Demonstrating why it is he has a crazy busy DJ schedule, he took the party to the people at Thump, playing a bunch of his own boisterous productions plus some other good stuff from Missy Elliott, A$AP Mob, and more.
