Our introduction to Shemzy came last month on “Daylight,” a futuristic, bouncy track that signaled a departure from the English emcee/producer’s earlier work. He’s on to something: “Man Right Now” is the followup, and it finds Shemzy unleashing more choice production, trap drums paired with screaming trumpets.
His flow flips easily between melodies and raps, and “Man Right Now” is a full-scale introduction to Shemzy’s many talents. Shemzy cites Jay Z and Aaliyah as influences, but he was also raised in a family heavy into UK garage. The inspirations have pooled, and they’re paying off in Shemzy’s raps and his production.
“Man Right Now” and “Daylight” will be featured on Shemzy’s upcoming In The Dark EP.
