Alt-folk is one of those genres that has the potential to fall flat if it’s not done well. The sounds and progressions have been around for a while and can seem recycled and unoriginal—in the wrong hands.
Then you get a band like Lola Marsh, and you remember why the genre has stuck around for so long. Led by Yael Shoshana Cohen’s sultry, homespun vocals, the duo is making accessible material that’s still entirely organic and intimate. Their first single “Sirens” landed in the top 5 for Spotify’s viral charts and by the sounds of it their new single, “You’re Mine” is poised to do the same.
