With Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck out now, Nirvana content has been surfacing at an unprecedented rate. Today, new photos surface from the famous 1991 Nirvana photo shoot by Kirk Weddle. The shoot went down on October 28, 1991, just months after the naked baby Nevermind cover that was also shot by Weddle.

The concept was simple: put Nirvana in a swimming pool. The band was apparently not happy about it. From Modern Rocks:

When the band showed up for the session at a Los Angeles pool, they were hardly in the mood. Call time was 10 A.M. The weather was unseasonably cold for an outdoor swim. And Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl were wiped out from a string of West Coast concerts. (Cobain was so exhausted, he even took a nap.) “I remember Kurt was like, ‘Fuck! I have to get in the pool?'” recalls Weddle. “He was not a water guy at all.”

The photos have been stored away in a closet until today. Modern Rocks Gallery has shared the images online, and you can buy prints here.
