The last original music we heard from Roosevelt was a good 18 months ago. His Elliot EP was a masterful blend of house and indie electronica. Since then, however, we’ve only heard a cover of John Martyn’s “Small Hours.” Judging by “Night Moves,” however, the time since Elliot has not been wasted.
Marius Lauber has gotten more comfortable with his own voice, for starters. It’s no longer masked behind effects, and he’s taking more chances, sampling the vocal track as a synth instrument unto itself rather than a separate entity.
The synth selection, as always, is on point. Roosevelt has always been able to find a groove, but “Night Moves” sees the Cologne-based producer set his sights higher. It’s a return of epic proportions, and “Night Moves” will coincide with a European tour for Roosevelt. Those dates are below, but first, sink into “Night Moves.”
