Last year’s announcement that Chicago up-and-comer Tink‘s debut LP would be produced hip-hop legend Timbaland was met with equal parts awe and skepticism—would she be able to keep her eclectic edge under the mentorship of such a pop powerhouse? “Ratchet Commandments” is the first offering from the as-yet-untitled album, a loose allusion to Biggie’s “Ten Crack Commandments.”

Instead of reciting the ABCs of the game, though, Tink’s single is a collection of advice addressed to women everywhere (“if you know your rent due/get the f**k out the club” was a particularly real tidbit). She leaves no stone unturned—in her quest to expose basicness everywhere, she speaks on social media, dating the wrong dudes, and even throws in a Mean Girls reference. It’s a little bit like her take on the classic “Doo Wop (That Thing),” a good song whose preachy tone turns it kind of sour.

Nevertheless, the song really hits its stride in the last verse where Tink is spitting at full speed, proving to any remaining doubters that she deserves every accolade she’s received.
